-The decentralizing force of socio economics. A pitfall. There are theories, beliefs, spiritual certainties-for some, stating that we are born connected, centrally and intrinsically bound to our humanity, to the state of our creation. This state becomes disrupted in our growing, our sprouting, our moving beyond gestation. This occurrence happens in nature all the time and thus we can compare the states of our beings to the change of a tree weighed down by the pull of gravity and the dearth of stone mitigating the fulfillment of its roots, leaving it to weaken its grasp on its dream and slanting to one side, causing it to grow at a 65 degree angle rather than the perpendicular intent. So is our dream, the dream of childhood, that pure and unadulterated glimpse into possibility, when we are fully connected to humanity, our own and that of others, so that the tears of others become our own, as we taste the salty mixture falling from our eyes.
It is environment and, ironically, the savage jungle of humanness which destroys our humanity, our connection, our belief and our stride. There’s a conundrum which exists in our world. A question which pretends no answer and in fact is difficult to answer. How opposing views of conduct can originate in the minds of two-variant groups of the same beings. When and how do we say yes to everything we are told, though it is not the instruction of our beings, coded into the genetic structure of the very mechanism which craves breath? How strong the mind that it over powers spirit. This is not a positive, but the same yielding to the shallow root and force upon us, holding back the spirit that is us. Thus the construction of the mask through which we view our world and ourselves within this world. How is this informed and how does it become misinformed?
Take the incidences of humanity responding to the calamity of the natural world around us. A hurricane which was created and we created, strengthening it by the same impetus which leads us to destroy ourselves and yet comfortably claim ignorance and absolution through such which we choose…and is ignorance still bliss if ignorance arrives at the willful ignoring of fact and truth and ourselves? The stage is set, and has been set for the millennia of breath and awareness which precedes us. The dikes collapse and the oil spills and havoc reaps through, cascading earth and wind and fire across the horizon of our awareness. The weak structures of construction lose all will and buckle under the natural and powerful forces from which we take breath. The deluge leaves us competing for breath, for hope and for survival.
Here, the very artifice of our existence is torn away, the cataloguing of beings, the stratification of class, the separation of wealth is clawed apart. We need breath and we need hope and we need to survive. Only here do we come to a full recognition of humanity as we shiver and tug and pull and reach for that stabilizing step, that threshold which may save us. Our own struggle we see in others and instinctually-or so it should be if still intact-recognize that we are not the only ones caught in the whirl wind. Then, in those moments, even as our arms flail, reaching, scratching, hoping, we extend ourselves to those who as well are in our predicament, that hopefully we can save and in this save ourselves as well. The outreaching, outpouring of the spirit within us, the very same which we usually hide in conditions which we have grown accustomed to. Then perhaps, it is only at birth and near death that we are truly human.
The mask, the artifice, the construct, however, is not completely swept by the deluge of nature. As we are tarried across the flooded channels and over the debris of many masks and many weak constructions, and away from the precipice of death, we regain the constructed world of identity; the catalogues of beings, the strata which classifies, and the wealth-which in some way still remains, even if simply psychological. We segregate and separate; under the same circumstance but through different eyes, experience and understanding-along with the lack of it. We retreat to the safety of artifice and the façade of social structure. We slash at the hands which lifted us from the debris and step on the spirit with which we identified. We push away from a totality and unity of humanity and separate, not into individuality, but rather group and socio economic conformity. The cycle, broken temporarily by natural and man exacerbated calamity, allowing a path-once more-to the dream, is mended and returned to its perpetuation of ignorance, our own and others’.
